How PRP and LED Light assist in Hair Regrowth

PRP (platelet rich plasma) treatment is an extremely safe procedure that helps the body to repair damage to skin and hair follicles by using injections of plasma. Our blood is made up of two components – red blood cells and plasma (plasma contains the white blood cells and platelets which are very rich in growth factors). Platelets are tiny cells in the blood that clump together to repair damage.

During your treatment, a couple of vials of your blood will be taken from your arm. These vials are then spun in a specialised machine called a centrifuge, which separates out the plasma. The plasma (rich in platelets) is then injected directly into the scalp both superficially through skin needling, and also directly in the deeper layers to assist in stimulating hair regrowth. The process is meticulous, and relatively quite comfortable as a topical anaesthetic is used prior to injecting.

We combine our PRP treatments with LED (Red) Light. Red light therapy has been found very effective in treating hair loss by increasing blood flow to the scalp and stimulating the metabolism in hair follicles. By the light penetrating to the base of the follicle (hair bulb), it allows a stronger foundation to support hair regrowth.

The combined treatment has no real social downtime, and multiple treatments may be recommended by Dr Rizk or the team at Hair Transplant Clinics Australia.
